Just a few things

On Cultural Relativism, Misogyny, and Revolution

From Foreign Policy’s Sex issue, this article left me with a lot of complex feelings.  It is hard, I think because of my environment and background, for me to completely articulate how I feel after reading the piece.  I mean, I don’t even know if I entirely know how I feel.

Where do we draw the line between respecting other cultures and taking a stand against hate and oppression?  Why do people content themselves with baby steps toward progress?  Does my position as a privileged middle class white American male even allow me to cry out against gender inequality in the global south?

Either way, as the article says, the revolution will be all for naught if the oppressors in the streets and in the houses are not done away with like the despots in the palaces.
